Swapping Chad’s and other QB Circus Fun!

Chad Henne is out, Chad Pennington is in? Really!?

Well it has happened…I have lived long enough for Chad Pennington to start again in the NFL. Never say never folks. The Dolphins brain-trust has decided Chade Henne needs a breather after another muti-interception game last Sunday and I could not disagree more. Let’s be frank, the Dolphins have very little chance of competing against the Jets and Pats in 2010 in the East and the best thing they can do is continue to develop thier youth and look to the future. Of course in the NFL, every team thinks they have a “shot” to make the playoffs, but this team is having its cookie before dinner and is ruining their appetite by announcing this short sighted switch for Sunday.

Pennington brings little to the fantasy table, especially if your league rewards big plays. Though Henne has been up and down, a bad showing in Baltimore is hardly a reason to yank him and Henne owners should be upset. The kid will only improve with reps in real action and the message they are sending the QB of the future is if you fail we will replace you, when really they should be telling him, “If you fail, get back out there and throw 3 TD’s against TEN this week.” Build character, not paranoia. Hopefully, Henne will make a return by halftime, but even if he doesn’t don’t expect this Chad Swap to last very long. Keep Henne on your roster.

In Detroit, Matthew Stafford is out yet again and Shaun Hill returns with his broken arm to do battle with lowly Bills. Hill’s 9TD/7INT stats are decent as a QB2 so grab him if you are desperate since his opponent is less than stellar. Eric Mangini continues to puzzle everyone by not officially naming a starter, but Colt McCoy continues to get the first team reps in practice and he will be another waiver wire QB add if you are in a bad spot. He is more of a game manager at this young stage of his career, but in keeper leagues he has potential.

Rumors swirl that Kerry Collins to Randy Moss might be the call this Sunday and at this stage you can’t count on Vince Young. Be afraid, be very afraid…if you have Young that is. Smart money is on Donavan McNabb to play all four quarters this week so don’t panic. After being punded by the Giants, Matt Hasselbeck will be back under center for the Seahawks who are fighting for thier life in the wide open NFL West. If they Seahawks though they had a shot last week, I bet he would have played. But they decided to keep him safe from the best pass rush in the league and threw Charlie Whitehurst to the wolves instead. Talk about taking one for the team.
